Shelby raffling off Mustang GT-H in support of Auckland Rescue
One of New Zealand’s unsung rescue outfits, the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter, has been given a boost thanks to Shelby New Zealand and Ford’s local distributors.
A new Shelby Mustang has been built, and is set to be raffled off to a lucky winner with proceeds from the raffle destined for the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust.
The Mustang in question is a Shelby GT-H; a modern-day callback to Shelby’s special edition Hertz GT-H cult classic rental car Mustangs from the 1960s. It mates the GT-H’s signature black and gold body work to Shelby’s revised front fascia, model-specific wheels, and a Borla exhaust system.
It also gets a touch more power than a standard Mustang GT, with 345kW of power and 556Nm of torque on tap. This puts it on par with the (now discontinued) Bullitt edition Ford Mustang.
“Shelby New Zealand with support from Ford New Zealand and Shelby American Inc have built a stunning limited edition black and gold Shelby GT-H Mustang as a fundraiser for the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust,” said Shelby New Zealand in its release.
“The Shelby GT-H will soon be raffled off to help raise much needed funds for the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust, with only 6000 tickets being made available through selected Ford Dealers, Shelby NZ and various automotive events such as Beach Hop 2021.
“Shelby NZ are very honoured to be able to work alongside and support such a great organisation as the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust, and at the same time build one very cool car, that some lucky ticket holder will win.”
More details about the raffle are set to be confirmed, although with Beach Hop set to take place on March 24–28 one would expect the raffle to be drawn by mid-2021.
