Quicker and lighter Alpine A110 due at Le Mans
Alpine released the modern A110 two years ago and it appears Renault’s performance standalone brand has been hard at work since.
A teaser showing a shipping container with Alpine branding has been released, with the descriptive caption “coming soon, stay tuned…” So, what’s in the box?
Rumour has it that Alpine is leaning away from boosting outright power as the gearbox in the A110 is near its limit with the current 320Nm. Instead, the car will be lightened through the use of carbon fibre panels in place of the standard car’s aluminium sheet metal. The roof, bonnet and boot lid will all be swapped for CF while the interior will be stripped out. A full titanium exhaust should round off the (weight) savings as well as providing a fruiter exhaust note.
Stiffer suspension will improve cornering but a limited-slip differential won’t be standard, if it’s added to the car at all, due to the weight penalty.
As for the name, the go-faster A110 could get an S or Sport suffix to demonstrate its intentions.
We’ll get the full story after the Le Mans result this weekend.
