Prior to its debut later this month, Porsche has put its updated Panamera to the test on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, bagging itself a new record along the way.

The German firm says its upcoming 2021 Porsche Panamera is now the lap record holder in the ‘executive-class car’ category.

Porsche didn’t state just which model set the lap, maybe a Turbo S, but it stopped the clocks at 7:29.81. The company’s test driver, Lars Kern, was at the wheel. This is fairly quick considering the purpose-built Jaguar XE SV Project 8 completed the same lap in a time of 7:23.16. The Panamera has also pipped the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S which lapped the course in 7:30.11.

Partly explaining the heroics, the pace-setting Panamera was fitted with the active roll control system and track-ready Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber, which the firm says will be optional for the keen buyer.

Models in the updated Panamera range are expected to gain a slight power and efficiency increase while the already phenomenal dynamic ability has clearly been further honed.
