Pininfarina to debut sedan and SUV within three years
Pininfarina, previously known for creating sensual designs for firms like Ferrari, made a new name for itself last year when it debuted the Battista, with a claimed output of 1397kW and 2300Nm. Around half of the 150-strong production run are spoken for but if you want something a little more practical, Pininfarina has you covered too. An all-electric SUV and sedan will be arriving in the next three years, according to the company’s CEO, Michael Perschke.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Italian company wants to team up with another carmaker to reduce R&D time and costs. It would then look to sell the finished platform to other companies in order to recoup the outlay.
Perschke mentioned a “tier one supplier” as a potential partner, someone like Bosch or Continental. He said he has already ruled out talking with the VW Group about using the PPE electric platform as it won’t allow enough height for the Pininfarina SUV.
Rimac springs to mind as its skateboard platform will be underpinning its own R1S SUV.
Whatever happens, we’ll know more in upcoming months. In the meantime, Pininfarina will soon show a revised version of the Battista concept at the Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach, California.
