Next Mazda3 set for Los Angeles appearance
Mazda has confirmed the new Mazda3 will hit the Los Angeles Auto Show, in both five-door hatchback and four-door sedan versions.
It also looks like a healthy amount of the Mazda Kai concept’s form has made it to production as well, or, as Mazda put it, a “more mature interpretation of Kodo design that embodies the essence of Japanese aesthetics.”
Power will come from a SkyActiv engine, with some rumours pointing to the X variant taking centre stage. Mazda has previously shown off a current-gen Mazda3-styled prototype with the new powerplant, a supercharged inline-four featuring compression ignition, cooled exhaust-gas recirculation and electrically controlled variable valve timing. No hard numbers are available but Mazda reckons fuel consumption will drop by 20-30 per cent while torque will increase by as much as 20 per cent, compared with a regular 2.0-litre.
There isn’t much more to glean from the short press release, so we’ll save the conjecture until the LA Auto Show, opening in late November.
