Next-gen DS 3 Crossback revealed
Months ahead of a launch at the Paris Motor Show this October, the DS 3 Crossback has been leaked in patent renderings.
The new car takes design inspiration from its DS 7 Crossback sibling. The intricate lights on the 7 look to be axed for the 3 and a vertical slash of DRLs extend from the headlights to the bumper, while a large grille dominates the front end.
Twin exhausts at the rear indicate there will still be some form of internal combustion engine under the hood, while the interior looks to be typically flamboyant in true DS style. It’s difficult to gather much else from the images, as they’re just basic renderings.
The DS 3 Crossback will ride on PSA’s Compact Modular Platform (CMP), which is easily adaptable for electric powertrains. The car at the Paris show will likely feature battery electric motivation to highlight the EV plans for DS. However, the familiar range of turbocharged three- and four-cylinder engines will form the mainstay of the range.
DS plans to launch a new car every year until 2025, each one coming with an electrified variant. CMP-based cars will spawn EV variants, while larger models based on EMP2 underpinnings, such as the larger 7 Crossback SUV, will use hybrid drivelines.
