With Geely helping steady the Lotus ship, the embattled British carmaker is refocusing its efforts which might well result in a new Elan, a British report is claiming.

The news from Autocar UK cites “sources familiar with the matter,” who reckon the reborn Elan could sit above the Elise.

Apparently, Lotus is “very excited” by the car, which could take the shape of a two-seater convertible. The new model is allegedly roomier and more comfortable than the Elise (which wouldn't be hard) and has more amenities.

Of course, being a Lotus, it will be a featherweight. The report reckons it will come in comfortably below the Porsche 718 Boxster and BMW Z4, helped by a completely new platform which will also underpin future Elise, Exige and Evora generations.

Alongside the Elan will be an SUV and the electric Evija hypercar. The current Evora is also expected to get a final model before the end of 2020.
