Kia readying its next EV
Kia will have its first dedicated electric car on sale next year.
From these spy shots, you can’t tell much, other than it might be about the same size as the Hyundai 45. If you can’t remember what that looked like, here’s a picture below.
This was shown at the 2019 Geneva show and is due on sale in 2021. Guess we’ll see the Kia version about then as well. It’ll likely take on a hatchback crossover sort of vibe while wearing an EV take on the tigernose grille. Some reports are suggesting Kia will give its new EV a performance slant with styling, output and dynamics to suit. A range of 500km is also touted while 800V charging tech should get it juiced up in no time too.
The EV, which is yet to be named (we suggest calling it the 46 to one up Hyundai) will form part of the firm’s Plan S strategy. If it all goes to, er, plan, Kia will offer 11 new EVs by 2025 while targeting a 6.6 per cent global EV market share. It will invest $US25bn over the next five years in achieving its EV goals.
