Kia is looking to expand its electrified presence in New Zealand with more EV and hybrid options.

On the cards are the Sportage Hybrid, the fully-electric Soul EV and hybrid versions of the Optima sedan and wagon.

“Kia has been developing a number of advanced technology electrified options that have already gone into other markets around the world and we are currently looking to see how these could fit within our line up,” said Todd McDonald, Managing Director of Kia Motors New Zealand.

Kia’s current electrified models have, according to the brand, brought its range-wide fuel consumption down by 25 per cent and CO2 emissions have dropped correspondingly.

While limitations on lithium-ion batteries has restricted the supply of these low-emissions vehicles, Kia says it is increasing production capacity while only working with suppliers that submit a code of conduct that stipulates the use of ethically sourced products.
