Hyundai unleashes electrifying Veloster N ETCR racer
Hyundai has revealed the rather epic-looking Veloster N ETCR electric race car at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
It will compete in the new ETCR championship, obviously, which is an electric-only version of the TCR league, obviously.
The racer looks much the same as the N TCR ICE-powered version but instead of the 261kW 2.0-litre turbocharged in-line four, there’s a single motor driving the rear wheels. Hyundai hasn’t revealed exact power figures just yet, with full testing to begin later in September.
It should be quite a little rocket though because the motor isn’t mounted on the rear axle as you might suspect. Instead, it’s right behind the driver. Hyundai hasn’t delved into the mid-rear layout before, especially in a racer, but has talked about midengined designs so it will be interesting to see how it does.
Perhaps Hyundai can send one to New Zealand and we can get resident i30 N TCR race driver Gene Rollinson behind the wheel...
