Six months on from confirmation that it would be offered locally, Hyundai’s giant seven-seater Palisade SUV has landed in New Zealand. And the Korean firm’s local arm has confirmed full specs and pricing, to boot.

Two engines are set to be offered here; a 3.8-litre petrol V6 producing 217kW/355Nm and a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel producing 147kW/440Nm. The petrol engine is exclusively paired to a two-wheel drive platform, while the diesels are exclusively all-wheel drive. All come with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Three trim-levels will be offered; Elite, Limited, and Limited Nappa Edition. The two Limited models come with seven seats, while the Elite seats eight. The flagship trim is also only offered with the diesel engine.

Pricing starts at $99,990 for the Elite petrol, with the range topping out at $119,990 for the Nappa Edition diesel. The Elite diesel, Limited Petrol, and Limited diesel are priced at $106,990, $107,990, and $114,990 respectively — making these the most expensive Hyundais ever sold in New Zealand.

For reference, the Hyundai Genesis briefly offered locally five years ago as a Lexus or BMW alternative was priced at $99,990. Ironically, it came fitted with the same 3.8-litre V6.

Apart from getting one of the most dimensionally imposing vehicles in class, Palisade owners can look forward to being showered in features and tech. The entry-level Elite comes with a 10.25 touchscreen, 12-speaker Infinity audio, motorised tailgate, heads-up display, three-zone climate, leather appointments, and 20-inch wheels.

The full SmartSense safety suite is also standard, inclusive of stop-go radar cruise control, lane keeping and lane following, and more. The Elite packs most of the same features as its more expensive rivals, meaning that the price premium is mainly for things like Nappa leather in the top trim, and a handful of other features like memory seating, dual sunroof, ventilated front and centre-row seats, an optional suede ceiling liner, and more.

“The all-new Hyundai Palisade has a certain presence about it, making it worthy of Hyundai’s flagship SUV. Palisade indulges on every level – from space to connectivity to capability, all packaged in a cutting-edge design,” says Hyundai New Zealand General Manager, Andy Sinclair.

“This new upper-large SUV is the ultimate vehicle for practical, comfortable daily use, as well as open road adventures.”
