The new Subaru Forester has been given a healthy five-star ANCAP rating.

The SUV achieved 94 per cent for adult occupant protection and 86 per cent for child occupant protection.

It also has high-end safety technology including a Driver Monitoring System (DMS) which uses facial recognition to detect driver distraction and drowsiness. If the driver continues to look away from the road ahead, both the driver and passenger are warned through a visual and audio alert.

We recently gave the Forester top honours in the $45k to $60k category in our Car of the Year awards, saying: “The Forester is purpose built for New Zealanders who want to get out and see this great country. There's a spacious, feature packed cabin while Subaru's AWD underpinnings give it the ability to go further. Yet it's still right at home in the city where it comforts occupants and keeps them safe with its myriad safety features. And it's got a great price tag too.”
