Ford CEO Jim Hackett confirmed recently that the upcoming Bronco reboot in the US will indeed feature an electrified powertrain.

The update came via a Tweet at the end of last week, confirming a little over a year of rumours. It reflects Ford’s goal to offer eight SUVs by 2020. Five of these will use hybrid powertrains while one will be a battery-electric vehicle.

A hybrid Bronco could use the powertrain from the electrified Ford Explorer, while the rumoured ‘baby Bronco’ could utilise the Escape’s hybrid system.

What’s really interesting about the news is that the Bronco will reportedly be heavily based on the Ranger pick-up, so there could be a chance we’ll see a hybrid ute in the near future.

Ford has already confirmed it will eventually offer electrified variants of the F-150 and Mustang as well as the Escape and Explorer already announced. The Focus and Fiesta hatchbacks will also be graced with mild hybrid capabilities.
