A new patent has arisen from Ford that looks to have given the Mustang a receding hairline.

The new windshield uses bows that can transmit forces from one side of the vehicle to the other in the event of an accident. Ford’s design allows the front windshield and rear glass to rise and meet at the roof bows, creating a semi-panoramic roof for occupants.

Apparently, the windshield can be used on unibody and body-on-frame vehicles, meaning it can be applied to any vehicle Ford builds. The American said it could also be used on taxis.

Of course, we may never see the windshield in the wild. Registering patents is just a way for automakers to protect their intellectual property, not a guarantee it will actually build the thing.
