Ford New Zealand has confirmed the pricing and specifications of the new Fiesta ST, due here in Q1 2020.

The new hot Fiesta is packing a 147kW/290Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged triple connected exclusively to a six-speed manual gearbox. There’s no trick all-wheel-drive system here either, with power only going to the front two wheels.

As standard, the ST will get launch control, a Quaife mechanical limited-slip differential and selectable drive modes along with Ford-patented force vectoring springs at the rear. On that last point, Ford says the new springs will offer sharper turn-in than conventional springs.

“We went through three times the normal number of suspension iterations to find a set-up that delivered the exciting driving experience demanded of an ST model, but also comfort and refinement for everyday driving,” said Leo Roeks, Director, Ford Performance Europe. “The car’s sophisticated dampers self-adjust to tune out high-frequency road imperfections when there is limited demand for damping – like on the motorway, but adjust again to deliver optimised road-holding performance when driven hard.”

The Fiesta ST will also only come in five-door guise for the first time in NZ, with snazzy exterior cues like LED headlights and 18-inch alloys shod with 205/40 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres.

Boot space is rated at 311L, with a full-size spare wheel.

Inside are Recaro bucket seats, a flat-bottom ST steering wheel, a 4.2-inch digital instrumentation cluster and Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system.

The Fiesta ST’s standard Driver Assistance Technology includes: autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, blind spot information system, cross traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, automatic headlights with LED DRLs and automatic high-beam and rain-sensing windscreen wipers. Cruise control is included but it doesn’t look to be of the active sort.

Finally, pricing. The ST will be available here for $35,490, coming standard with Ford’s five-year/unlimited kilometre factory warranty. It’ll be here in Q1 2020, but you can read all about it in the latest issue of NZ Autocar.
