Classic workhorses up for auction
Australian auction house Shannons is putting a bunch of classic working utes and vans under the hammer at the upcoming Melbourne Winter Classic auction on July 15.
There’s a restored 1962 Ford Falcon XL ute, which came with heavy duty suspension, a stronger starter motor, better clutch and different gearing to the American Falcon. This example is finished in baby blue and features the 170 Pursuit engine. It’s expected to sell for $AU20,000-25,000.
There’s also a mint 1965 Datsun 520 pick-up in beautiful brown, complete with 1.3-litre four-banger and four-speed column-shift gearbox. Shannons reckons it has done 106,000 genuine kays and will sell for between $AU10k and $14k.
Not into retro utes? There’s a Jeep Station Wagon up for grabs, with whitewall tyres, steel rims, a burgundy/brown colour combo and a roof rack. It is expected to sell for $AU30k-$35k.
Sports car fans are accounted for too, with a 1972 Holden LJ Torana GTR-XU1 asking between $AU80k and 90k, a Porsche 930 Turbo in right-hand drive with a sticker price starting at $AU160k, and a 1972 Ford Falcon XA GT Coupe, estimated to go for between $AU125k and $150k.
