Toyota Gazoo Racing has confirmed Brendon Hartley will drive the team’s Number 8 car for the 2019-2020 season, replacing Fernando Alonso.

It was already known Hartley would join the team but we weren’t sure which car he would be driving. Hartley will now partner with Sébastien Buemi of France and Kazuki Nakajima of Japan.

“Brendon will replace Fernando — that is the most straightforward way to approach it,” Toyota Motorsport GmbH Technical Director, Pascal Vasselon, said.

“It felt so good to be back at this incredible circuit in a four-wheel drive 1000hp hybrid car,” Hartley said after a recent test at Spa-Francorchamps.

“I was a bit sad to get the call to pit after just three timed laps but that was always the plan, so I knew it was coming.

“I was just having so much fun discovering the car around here. It was a real pleasure and now I can't wait to be back in the car again.”

Hartley has other contracts with Porsche, Toyota and Ferrari this year after being ousted by the Toro Rosso Formula 1 squad last year. He’s currently a simulator driver for Ferrari, a reserve Toyota driver for Le Mans this weekend and rumour has it that Hartley will jump in Porsche’s new Formula E car next season.
