BMW has taken the wraps off the new electrified 3 Series, offering more power and range.

The new 330e Sedan will pair BMW’s eDrive technology with a four-pot petrol engine to offer a total system power output of 185kW. Torque is up to 420Nm, allowing for a 0-100km/h sprint of six seconds flat.

In Hybrid mode, the 330e is able to reach a speed of up to 110 km/h on electric power alone – 30 km/h faster than its predecessor. In Electric mode, emissions-free motoring is possible at speeds of up to 140 km/h. Range is up to 60km on electric power alone, while fuel consumption drops to 1.7L/100km.

Sport mode enables the new XtraBoost feature which adds 30kW of additional electric power stored in a high-voltage battery. You also get a specific shifting programme for the eight-speed Steptronic transmission.

As with all modern sporty-yet-frugal cars, BMW has included “highly emotional engine acoustics” inside the vehicle. We’ll just leave that one there. Optional equipment includes an acoustic pedestrian protection function.

Standard trim of the 330e Sedan includes pre-heating and pre-conditioning of the interior. At low outdoor temperatures, the interior can also be conveniently heated prior to setting off –even if the battery charge status is low.

Interested? The hybrid 3er will launch next year, with pricing and further specifications to be announced closer to the time.
