BMW 5 Series updates arriving soon
Prices and equipment specifications for the facelifted BMW 5 Series have been announced, the 520i sedan kicking things off from $99,900. The estate (Touring) versions will no longer be available here.
Two other variants will be available when the range arrives at the beginning of Q4 2020, comprising the 530e plug-in hybrid ($129,900), and the M550i xDrive ($174,900). But wait, you want the M550i for less? Now you can, by opting for the M550i xDrive Pure for $149,900.
M Sport packages are standard across the entire 5 Series range, a first for the line-up. Moreover, each comes with the upgradable iDrive System 7.0, a larger 12.3-inch infotainment display, BMW Drive Recorder, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and compatibility with both smartphone types.
The range of cost options has also increased, and now includes M Multifunction seats, red-painted brake calipers, and M Individual wheel options.
As to the nitty gritty, the BMW 520i comes with a 2.0L 135kW/290Nm four-pot engine mated with an eight-speed auto, and capable of 0-100km/h in 7.9sec. Standard kit includes adaptive suspension and LED headlights, 19-inch alloys, ambient lighting, a powered tailgate, head-up display and BMW Live Cockpit Professional along with Connected package.
The 530e plug-in hybrid adds a more potent four-pot engine and a 30kW motor for a system total of 215kW and 420Nm. The quickstep to 100 is apparently done and dusted in 5.9sec. It also comes with manual shifting for the eight-speed auto, a noise to alert pedestrians when running in EV mode, a Harman Kardon hi-fi sound system, Comfort seats and M Sport brakes.
To the pair of big dogs finally, the BMW M550i xDrive Pure is fired by a turbocharged V8 delivering 390kW and 750Nm, sufficient to shoot the AWD saloon to 100 in 3.8sec. Standard items include adaptive M suspension, laser lights, four-zone climate air, and remote control parking.
The top model BMW M550i xDrive adds Adaptive M suspension Professional, four-zone climate control, soft-close doors, a sunroof and BMW display key. Several options packages are available for the lesser models.
As with all New Zealand-new BMW vehicles, a five year warranty, three year service inclusive programme and five-year roadside assist coverage are included.
