Updated BMW iX SUV confirmed for NZ with improved electric range

by Andrew Sluys
November 1, 2025

BMW New Zealand has released pricing and specifications for the updated iX electric SUV, which will be launched “at the end of 2025”.

Priced from $169,900 for the iX xDrive45 M Sport, deliveries of this model are set to commence in December.

BMW notes the xDrive45 M Sport will be the sole offering in the local iX range, superseding the iX xDrive40 Sport.

On the outside, the updated iX looks to be more inline with BMW’s current X-Series SUV range. LED headlights and a redesigned front bumper are evidence of this. The glowing kidney grilles is also something that is making its local debut on this model.

Beneath this updated fascia is an electric driveline that has been “developed to deliver noticeably more power” for this model.

The topline figures of 300kW and 700Nm represent 60kW and 30Nm increases over the previous iX xDrive40. This results in a 0-100km/h time of 5.1 seconds.

To match this increased performance, the iX’s battery has also been increased by 30 per cent in size, to 94.8kWh. With this improvement, the maximum driving range for the electric SUV now sits at 602km.

As for charging, the maximum DC rate has been increased to 175kW, while the maximum A rate remains at 22kW.

On the inside, an 18 speaker Harman/Kardon sound system comes standard, as goes the glass roof, and wireless phone charging.

As is the case with most BMWs, the option list for this iX is extensive, allowing customers to personalize their vehicle to their taste. As standard the iX comes on 21-inch alloy wheels, but 22-inch as well as 23-inch wheels can also be optioned for $2,500 and $5,000 respectively.

At a cost of $6,500, the Executive package adds soft close doors, interior crystal glass, an interior camera, privacy glass, seat ventilation, and a seat heating package.

A Bower and Wilkins sound system can be added for an additional $9,500, which makes use of 30 speakers throughout the cabin.

A steering package, assisting with low-speed maneuvers can be had at $3,000, air suspension adds $4,000, and a folding tow bar will run you $2,600.
