Flat-chat Porsche 911 GT2 RS
Thankfully there are still unrestricted sections of Germany’s Autobahn. What better way to use them than take Porsche’s finest out for a midnight bash?
Porsche’s ultimate nine-eleven may be brutally quick around a racetrack but sometimes you just need to get a little bit juvenile and see how fast you can go in a straight line.
Officially the GT2 RS will top out at about 340km/h but the folks at Sport Auto magazine wanted to verify that claim and where better than the Autobahn?
The 514kW beast managed to hit an indicated 356km/h, which is well above what Stuttgart says the car will do, but speedometers have a tendency to inflate the ego of the driver. Sport Auto had a GPS on board which clocked the car's speed at a slightly more realist 342km/h. That’s still faster than the claimed top speed but it is also less of a round number.
It’s not just the top speed of the GT2 RS that amazes but also the acceleration. The car can evidently manage 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds, 0-160km/h in 5.8 seconds and it only needs 8.3 seconds to hit 200km/h. Zero-300km/h takes a measly 22.1 seconds.
